Wow. If the piece truly lost you, why bother commenting on it? Medium is not in general filled with brilliantly edited pieces. That does not make the content any less valuable.
Be kind, people.
Anyway…my husband is also on the autism spectrum. He had a starter job in an architecture firm that played Muzak in an inescapable 6-hour loop. For those too young to have been subjected to this aural torture, Muzak was the cold-french-fry version of elevator music. Now offices play actual pop songs, or nothing at all. This office also had heavy fluorescent lighting, and he (unlike me) has always been able to see, and was tormented by, their flickering. He constructed an elaborate paper had with a long bill as a shield against the lights. Needless to say this did not go over well with the bosses.
In those days very little was known about autism. He wasn’t diagnosed until about 30 years later. I like to think things are better now, but maybe that depends on the industry.
