Very timely article — Thank you! My mum, 93, is my Dementia Guru. When she was about 89, she called me: “Helen! They tell me I’m demented!” So began her journey to contentment. Growing up, she terrorized all who dared her (endless) wrath (ie. me). Now she has an imaginary boyfriend, staff loves her, and I’ll sit w/her & we each read magazines. Can she read? I think so! But she enjoys whatever happens along.
