I wasn’t familiar with this term before reading your piece. I’m part of an online community which is characterized by openness and vulnerability. One person used to share, like clockwork, the same story of abandonment by his family. In the past I would have been pretty judgmental, but dealing with my own trauma in a more honest way than before has softened me. I was able to empathize with the unresolved pain that drove him to recite the story on repeat… the story behind the story, as it were. Recently he has opened up in a deeper way, and this actually helped all of us on the call feel more connected. A gift of vulnerability.
